Antirelativity rallies... [Science]

Quote from New Details Emerge From the Einstein Files:

"Another turned out to be a convicted extortionist who had once organized antirelativity rallies in Berlin."

Antirelativity rallies... And this was during a time (between WW I and II) when there were quite a few actually relevant social issues to be an activist for. How did this guy settle on being on antirelativity activist? I don't really understand activism in science. Reminds of people like Stephen Jay Gould and this story from the Economist: Defending Science.
